A little poem I wrote (with editing and help from a friend) about social media: specifically tinder.
“
All around me, in ever-larger squares
Lie fictions, true only to themselves.
Live façades we made of ourselves.
All around: me seen through focused stares
Cold comfort is but an old tool
To those uncomfortable with the star count
Why “be” here, but to be made a fool?
If it isn’t enough, just set up a new account!
In the end it’s your mind that empties
While our coffers only grow. You agreed
to the terms of service: didn’t you know?
Swipe: in any direction, with any intention
We know you’re shy: we profit of that
Swipe: in any direction, but match none at all.
