So many of you read my experiences when I was hospitalized for an extended period, and many of you have said that you were very impressed and even moved by what I wrote. Well, now I'm starting to get the bills from that experience and just some other things (including really deciding that I want to be a writer or a novelist as my career) have made me wonder if it's possible I can make money off of this.
I understand that by publishing it on Kinja I've essentially surrendered "first publication rights" but at the time I felt it was more important to simply share the story as soon as I could, and besides there are other ways to get money from this, such as being able to use it as a writing sample or otherwise impress some organization who needs to fill a paid writer position. Moreover, I figure it's worth simply just throwing it out there and seeing if anybody has any suggestions.
In other news, I'm about 20,000 words on a novel I've been working on for a year now. It's way too early to do anything with that at this stage but I think it's the time to start wondering how should I be able to share it to get feedback while protecting my copyright on it, if that doesn't sound too paranoid.
