Nursing homes house less than 1% of the US population - they are about 0.6% of the population. But they comprise 43% of COVID-19 deaths nationwide.
80% of deaths are among those 65 and older. Bit even they have a death rate from the disease that is higher than flu, but not dramatically so. The data I could find on underlying health conditions was a little out of date, so I am not posting it. But evidence suggests that the vast majority of the population has little to fear.
We need to shift to policy that allows people to live and choose the level of risk they are willing to accept. Those who are afraid can isolate themselves very easily. But those who are not need to live. We are not just destroying our economy, which is our basic means of sustenance, we are destroying our mental health and compromising children's future.
