If you missed the previous editions of The Cask, check it out here with a link to the past editions (there’s a couple other posts mixed in too, you’ll notice my consistent lead image): Advertisement Past Editions of The CaskSo you guys have been encouraging me to try more Bourbon, so here we go with another one. Once again you guys came through with a great recommendation - it may be hard to find but W. L. Weller Special Reserve is some damn fine Bourbon. Advertisement Coming from the same distillery as Buffalo Trace which was the 10th review on The Cask I was pretty confident in picking this one up. I figured if the main offering from Buffalo Trace was so good, a discounted bottle couldn’t be bad. Price: $20.00 - Cheap!Wonderful price on this one and coming from a legitimate, established and successful distillery. It may not be the main brand, but that’s just fine for me. This is officially making it onto the list for The Cask’s cheapest and best list! When I heard about it at this price I didn’t think it could actually be this good. Sponsored Quality: Rocks Sipper - 2If you remember from the last edition of The Cask, here’s the way I do the rankings, 1 being the best. Advertisement SipperRocks SipperIce SipperMixerSo I’m giving this a 2 and at around 20 bucks a bottle you absolutely cannot go wrong. It’s a wheated 90 proof bourbon and it goes down extra smooth, especially for the price. I must admit that despite it being completely fine as a 2, I do think it’s even nicer with just a single ice cube. Very little water being infused, there’s no reason to drown it (you know, like the one drowning in my picture....). In my defense, especially with what’s basically a bargain bourbon I normally start with more ice and work backwards to nothing over a few days to find the right balance for each particular whiskey. Flavor wise is Buffalo Trace better? Yes. But if you want to save yourself 10-12 bucks this is definitely the right move.Between this and my original favorite $20 bottle of whiskey - Legacy Small Batch I feel I’m really starting to get a discount whiskey list together for you guys! If you can find it, go grab a bottle! Advertisement As always let me know what you think, what you want me to drink, and what you’ve been drinking! Have a great weekend everyone! Enjoy some whiskey!
