Past Editions of The Cask

Today we’re starting the beginning of Michigan Whiskey Month!!! I’ve had a few requests to review Michigan Whiskey’s and giving I live in Michigan, it seemed like a great idea. Starting things off we have New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon. Before we get any further I know a bunch of you Bourbon purists will say there’s no way it’s Bourbon if it’s made in Michigan! Well, they don’t try and pretend it’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon, so we’re all good on that front. Relax and have a sip of whiskey.

So I want to start off by pointing out that this is a really interesting concept. Finishing a Bourbon in a beer barrel is insane! Unless of course it’s a being produced by a really successful brewery, because they may in fact know a thing or two about how to re-use beer barrels. So it spends several years in new American Oak barrels before being finished off for 3 months in their Beer Barrels.

Price: $29.99 - Mid-range

The price of this Bourbon is perfect. It’s something you’ll be able to have on the counter at almost all times giving the reasonable cost of entry. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this bottle at this price range.

If you remember from the last edition of The Cask, here’s the way I do the rankings, 1 being the best.

WHAT? Did MontegoMan just give a 1 to a Bourbon? YES I DID! You guys are broadening my horizons by encouraging me to try more Bourbon’s and Scotch’s. I’m so glad I started out Michigan Month with this bottle, but I wish luck to the rest of the Michigan Distilleries that have to follow this up because it’s fantastic. It’s officially my favorite Bourbon and it honestly surprised me. It’s smooth and caramel-y and I can’t get enough of it. This is going to become a staple in the Montego household. So next time you’re in the store trying to pick out something a little different but you don’t want to gamble - I guarantee New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon will be a solid choice

As always let me know what you think, what you want me to drink, and what you’ve been drinking! Have a great weekend everyone!
